Boat Diving Boards and Boat Towing

You don’t need to spend $75,000 on the biggest pickup truck on the lot just so you can tow your boat. If you are in need of a vehicle to tow your boat, there are several choices you can go with.

Whether you own a pontoon or a sailboat, you can’t enjoy a day on the lake unless you have a way to get your boat there. And it is highly unlikely that your Volkswagen Bug has the towing capacity that will get the job done.

But that does not mean you have to spend a ton of money on a full-sized pickup truck. There are plenty of other options when it comes to vehicles that can tow a boat. Lillipad Marine, home of boat diving boards, offers the best vehicle for towing your boat and other pertinent information.

Boat Weights

Not all boats have the same weight. Pontoon boats and sailboats weigh about 2,200 pounds while fully-loaded deck boats weigh about 4,000 pounds. Cabin cruisers weigh over 5,000 pounds.

If your boat weighs more than a cabin cruiser, you will need a crane and professional assistance to get it moved.

Sedans

The bulk of sedans have a towing capacity of right around 1,000 pounds, which is quite useless if you own a pontoon boat or a cabin cruiser. However, a sedan is perfect if you own a rowboat or canoe.

There are a few sedans, like the Volvo S60 for example, that can tow more than 1,000 pounds. The Volvo S60 is capable of towing over 3,000 pounds and would be ideal if your boat was around this weight.

SUVs

If you desire a smaller SUV and have a boat you would like to tow, you have some exceptional options.

There are several smaller SUVs that are capable of towing more than 3,000 pounds including the Ford Escape and Toyota RAV4.

There are a lot of full-sized SUVs with excellent towing capabilities including the Jeep Wrangler and Chevy Equinox.

Oversized SUVs, like the Ford Expedition, are able to tow as much as 9,000 pounds.

Trucks

For serious boat towing, you need a truck.

The Ford F-150 can tow a little over 11,000 pounds. You can tow almost any boat with a RAM 3500 Heavy Duty truck as it can carry loads weighing as much as 31,000 pounds.

Other Considerations

Now that you have an idea of what type of vehicles are best for towing your boat, there are other things to consider.

For example, bigger SUVs and trucks that have large towing capacities will tow almost anything, but at a price. You can bet that these towing beasts don’t get very good gas mileage.

On the other hand, they do have a ton of space for your passengers and cargo. So that is something to keep in mind.

Once you have figured out which vehicle is best to tow your boat, you need to buy a diving board for your boat from Lillipad Marine.
